Is there an increase in Missing/Murdered children?

Has there been an increase in child abductions or murders?

The answer is no. So now your saying "What? How can you say that." Easy it's true. What is so different now to make it seem like it has gone up?

We have 24 hour news channels and yep the Internet. And don't forget social media which also plays a big part in getting the news out quickly. That includes tablets, cell phones and laptops. We live in a around the clock information network. There are many sites dedicated to finding the missing and posting AMBER Alerts. But not every missing child gets an AMBER Alert due to parental abductions, no suspect or car information. They get an Endangered/Missing child alert.

A few years ago I posted the statistic that a child goes missing every 41 seconds according to NCMEC. Then an uninformed person said "If that's the case we would run out of children." Wrong, the number does not include how many are found or how quickly they are located. Also many are not reported and counted so the number may be higher.

Another reason it seems to have increased is we are paying attention. Especially pregnant or new parents. Many times if something doesn't effect us personally we don't take notice to the alerts. Usually it has to happen to someone close to us or a family member for people to care.

We need to care before it happens people. I can't stress this enough. Are you ready if it happens to you? Do you have ID/DNA kits on all your children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren? Recent pictures or what were they wearing this morning, do you remember. Have you checked for Sex Offenders in your neighborhoods? What are you waiting for?

We need to be the ones who protect all children and the best weapon is knowledge. Search the Internet on ways to protect your family. Read everything you can and follow through with it. Be aware of your surroundings and any dangers in your neighborhood. Ask your children the tough questions about improper touching, even if its mom or dad doing it. Watch programs like Raising America with Kyra Phillips on HLN for the latest trends our children are doing.

What we do now will impact our children and their future. Why not start protecting better now? Why wait until something has to happen to your loved ones. The DOJ has a printable book on what to do when a loved one goes missing that you can download for free. But why wait until they are gone to learn what to expect and what to do.

Be informed. Be diligent. Be prepared and most of all share your knowledge with other parents. The best defense is KNOWLEDGE!

Any questions? Please just ask!

Harder than I thought

Morning Everyone,

As promised I'm here to up date you on my progress on the book. I have an outline all written up and the first 5 pages.

Yep you saw that correctly I have started lol. And to be honest this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Not the writing part but the emotions it brings up.

I began to get emotional when I started talking about what I wanted people to get from the book and our life way back in the beginning. I caught myself thinking about the way we used to be. But not just memories but the way it actually felt. The butterflies at the thought of holding his hand or our faces going flush when we kissed and so on. And immediately getting angry at myself for letting those feelings to come back into my life. Especially since they were the ones about him.

Those feelings are always followed by nausea and contempt for him. Knowing that he experienced those same feelings when he was abusing our daughter. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

OK back to the present, here and now. I promised my Facebook friends and family I would post my opening page for them to critique and make suggestions about on my personal FB page. And I'm now promising you the same thing.

Later today I will post my opening page here on the blog IF I get 10 comments to this post. I know you think that's silly but oh contra ire it makes perfect sense. If there are 10 comments then I know people are actually interested in seeing the beginning of my book here on the blog. And if there aren't 10 comments then I know the public would rather see other posts on AMBER Alerts or the missing or Sex Offender info and not the book.

The last thing I want to do is run people off by posting things they aren't interested in. So that's why I'm asking for the comments.

It is now 5:45am. I will check back all day and if I get 10 comments by 6:00pm I will post it by 6:30pm.

And I'm not so shallow that I'll be upset or angry if the comments aren't there. It's just an offer to see into what I'm doing :-)

See you all later.

This is Our Calling

This is Our Calling

None of us asked for this job. What person in their right mind would want to feel the pain and loss we each feel. The grief when someone is found dead. The tearing of our hearts when the person is found but not in the same condition they left in. We can't only feel joy of a person being found and returned to their family.

It is all connected.

The sleepless nights wondering where someone is or trying to understand how another human being could kill an innocent person. Answers that we will never get no matter how much we want them. The hours searching for updates on a case. The scrapes and blisters from searching the woods all day. The anxiety over did we do everything we could or did we miss something. The blurry eyes and headaches from researching all hours of the night and lack of sleep.

The frustration when we don't feel like we are getting anywhere or helping enough. The darkest time of night when we ask why am I doing this, it isn't even my family. The missed appointments and school plays lost because we were talking to a person who's family member is missing and comforting them.

None of us want this. We do this not for a pat on the back or 15 minutes on TV, we do this for all the people who can't. Yes it's very hard, yes it can be more painful than you can imagine. But all that can't compare to the feeling you get when you help bring a person home.

The day you don't feel anything when you hear a person was hurt or killed needlessly is the day you should walk away.

We are a unique group of people who are drawn to each other. Complete strangers who have a common bond, helping the helpless. We support each other and give words of comfort or encouragement. We keep each other going because deep down we understand when others don't. Like I said before none of us want this...

it is our calling.

Anquiaette Parker and Cermen Lemont Toney, Jr. Bodies Identified.

Bodies Identified in Missing Persons Case

Created: 3/27/2008 12:30:04 PM
Last updated: 3/27/2008 11:05:26 PM

(KSDK) -- Illinois State Police have tentatively identified the remains of two individuals that were found in a cistern in Collinsville on Wednesday.

The remains were identified as those of 19-year-old Anquiaette Parker, and her 4-year-old cousin, Cermen Lemont Toney, Jr., or "C.J." as he was known. The pair disappeared back in November 2005 when Parker, who was pregnant at the time, was babysitting C.J.

NewsChannel 5 has also learned that two persons of interest were taken into custody, with charges expected to be filed on Friday.

State Police have not said what evidence was uncovered, but they are telling us it has been sent to a state police crime lab, and it is likely some D.N.A testing will take place. A source close to the investigation confirmed human remains were found during digging on Wednesday. Police said a tip from a new property owner led them to their dig site, behind a home, right next to Fairmont Park Race Track, where investigators were still working to uncover evidence Thursday afternoon.

Police said the property owner called them when he found something he thought would be of interest to investigators. What that was, police won't say, but they said he found it while clearing brush and outbuildings on his newly purchased land in the 9200 block of Collinsville Road.

Police said they've had their eye on the property, which they've searched dozens of times, and the two men who used to live on the property, who they've interviewed multiple times, ever since the missing pair disappeared.

Greg Fernandez is a retired Illinois State Police Lieutenant. He was one of the lead investigators in the missing persons case. Fernandez says, "We did over 25 searches by land and air, and we had horses and bloodhounds but never could find a body."

Anquiaette Parker's car was found not far from the dig site at a veteran's hall shortly after she disappeared. At this point, police weren't commenting on any possible motive in this case, but a source close to the investigation tells NewsChannel 5 that police "believe there's indication why this happened."

Greg Fernandez says, "I am sad for the families but at least they get to come home for a proper burial."

AMBER Alert for Deidre Jeanne Michuda Abducted by Sex Offender MN.

AMBER Alert issued for teen girl, her sex-offender father

An AMBER Alert was issued Monday night for a 14-year-old girl from Inver Grove Heights who reportedly was abducted by her father, a known sex offender.

Deidre Jeanne Michuda was believed to have been abducted by Stephen Michuda, 34, sometime after school late Monday afternoon. Stephen Michuda does not have custody of his daughter and is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with her, authorities said.

Inver Grove Heights police responded to a 6:15 p.m. call to a residence in the 7800 block of Chandler Lane, where the girl lives with her mother and where Stephen Michuda was living temporarily. The girl's mother told police Stephen Michuda had taken his daughter sometime between 2:45 and 3:50 p.m.

Authorities do not know whether the child went willingly with her father or was taken by force. His permanent residence was not known.

Deidre was last seen wearing a dark blue sweatshirt with an embroidered "JMS Marching Band" logo and blue or black jeans, and was carrying a green backpack. She is biracial (white and Asian), about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 110 pounds, has dark brown eyes and brown hair reaching the middle of her back.

Stephen Michuda drives a green 1998 Chevy Venture minivan, with Minnesota license plates GUB-014. The van has a dent in its driver's-side door, authorities said.

Stephen Michuda is described as white, with blue eyes and brown hair, shaved close to the scalp, and a goatee. He is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and often wears a green U.S. Army jacket.

Anyone with information about the pair's whereabouts is urged to call 911

Under an AMBER Alert, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension releases information about suspected kidnappings of children 17 years old or younger to the news media, law enforcement agencies and businesses.
