The Search for Ali Gilmore Continues

The Klaas Kids Foundation is coming to Tallahassee to help organize a massive search for Ali Gilmore. Gilmore has been missing for two months now, and friends and colleagues are hoping hundreds of people will turn out this weekend to help them search for clues.


Ali Gilmore's co-workers at the Florida Department of Health will pull on boots and gloves Saturday and join as many as 300 others in scouring the southside woods for signs of their friend.


Karen Freeman, a friend and co-worker, says, "It's just so wonderful to know that so many of us love and care for Ali and want her to be found."


The community search is being organized by the Klaas Kids Foundation, which is named after 12-year-old Polly Klaas who was kidnapped and murdered in California more than a decade ago. Foundation members now travel the country and coordinate searches primarily for missing children.


Tallahassee police say they have searched woods and holding ponds near Gilmore's home several times, but welcome the extra sets of eyes and will be standing by just in case.


OFC John Newland of the Tallahassee Police Department says, "The more eyes you have, the better off you're going to be. You can cover more area also.


The only thing we have to do is educate them on what happens if they find Miss Gilmore or they find a piece of evidence, what should they do, and that's basically why we're there.


"The Klaas Kids Foundation will begin its search at 9 a.m. Saturday morning with a second wave Saturday afternoon, and it'll do it all again on Sunday.


Angel Little, a friend and co-worker, says, "As long as we keep moving and keep pressing and keep the word out and make sure everyone's eyes are peeled, then something has to become of this."


The search headquarters will be located at "Pivotal Point" at 447 FAMU Way.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and bring a photo ID with them.


Volunteers are encouraged to wear woods-ready attire like boots and long pants.
